Even though Deeter's lecture style is of the masturbatory variety "or some such. . .some such thing" (sound familiar?) it was a really good class. We all chatted about Konrad Lorenz's theories of aggression as related to little boys and (of course :\) the reading at hand. We also talked about Freud's explications on gift-giving, the socio-historic value and reason for it, and the ritualistic protocols of the same as realted to deeper interpersonal relationships and "saying goodbye". For an good example, see page 99 in "Whirlwind". We talked about the goft-giving in a rationally hopeless situation as "Tokens of Hope" that help the givers and receivers transcend their situation--they fouhd something larger than death of the physical body to hold to. I was going to say that you didn't miss much but I thought it was a very lively conversation this time--refreshingly insightful. So, I guess you missed out. See ya Tuesday.
